Update

Right now, I'm about halfway through Seriously... I'm Kidding- good progress!

A chapter that stood out to me was chapter 10. I do have to mention that Ellen didn't number her chapters, so the only way I knew it was the tenth chapter was because she said, "This chapter, chapter ten, is my favorite chapter in one of my favorite books so I feel an enormous amount of pressure to make it spectacular." (De Generes). And of course, she can't resist cracking a joke,"There are other books I've read where chapter ten was not that great at all. But I prefer not to tell you to which book I'm referring. Maybe the author of that book failed to read the chapter in the book I aforementioned." (De Generes).

Anyways, the reason this chapter stood out to me was because it had some intelligent, original thoughts blended with a lot of jokes. The most important line from this chapter is, "I don't know why bigger words seem like they're more important. Really, all words are important..."(De Generes). This leads to a whole paragraph of thoughts, and Ellen then tries to make a sentence without using any small words (she can't). The whole chapter revolved around this idea, that although big words are fancy and ostentatious, small words are equally as neccessary.

Maybe I'm over analyzing this, but I think that there was a deeper meaning to this chapter. I think Ellen used this chapter as a metaphor for people. I think that the real, hidden idea, was that all people- big or small, fancy or plain- are equally important and valuable, because without them, the world would not be the way it is now.

  1. I love how in depth you analyzed text that people usually would overlook. This book usually would not be on my reading list, however I believe you have changed my mind!

  2. I don't think that you're overanalyzing at all. I can definitely see the deeper meaning to the chapter. And it would be something that Ellen would do!
